A Reference and Good Read

I am posting a link to a really good read on the progression of the 58th down through Tennessee as they marched toward Chickamauga after great losses from desertion and disease.

It elaborates on the paths I have shown on the maps: this link was corrupted, and I am so sorry. It says the domain was bought by someone. so I am just linking to the previous blog about their movement. The link I was giving, backed up a lot of my story. But sometimes people won't let you use their material, so you are required to take my word for it.

CEMETERIES

This Is The Place where our ancestral "loved ones" call home. Click on the text to link to pages which will become a continuously changing gateway to the cemeteries where our ancestors bodies lie. We'll view the stones whenever possible. There is so much to learn from the stones and the death records, but also there are discrepencies due to the fact that many who died were unable to provide the proper information in their declining years. "Barbour County is situated on the Allegheny Plateau, and includes part of the Laurel Ridge. The Tygart River drains the area consisting of approximately 345 square miles.
Philippi is the county seat, and was settled in 1780 by Richard Cottrill and Charity Talbott. The community was originally known as Anglin's Ford and then Booths Ferry. It was later renamed Philippi in honor of Philip Pendleton Barbour."
