CEMETERIES

This Is The Place where our ancestral "loved ones" call home. Click on the text to link to pages which will become a continuously changing gateway to the cemeteries where our ancestors bodies lie. We'll view the stones whenever possible. There is so much to learn from the stones and the death records, but also there are discrepencies due to the fact that many who died were unable to provide the proper information in their declining years. I will discuss more about the problems and blessings of taking data from the tombstones on the blog.

"Barbour County is situated on the Allegheny Plateau, and includes part of the Laurel Ridge. The Tygart River drains the area consisting of approximately 345 square miles.
Philippi is the county seat, and was settled in 1780 by Richard Cottrill and Charity Talbott. The community was originally known as Anglin's Ford and then Booths Ferry. It was later renamed Philippi in honor of Philip Pendleton Barbour."
