SILVER

The Silver line was the one I worked out before any of the others, because the early records had so many Silver family names that I couldn't believe it was possible to determine which of them was actually my ancestral Grandfather in the earliest records. Once I noticed dates and similarities in the records, I began to suspect they were all either brothers or cousins, and my first real indication this was true was when I discovered they all put on their records that their father had been born in Russia.  Seemed to be something they were proud of...   Lots to share about this wonderful pioneer family.

My GrGrandfather -
William Bailus            married            Nancy Ellender Silver.

Nancy Ellender Silver was named for both her grandmothers, who were both named Ellender/Elendor. They also both were commonly known as Nellie, a common nick name at the time.  She was however called Nancy.   Her mother, Lucinda Jane Rowland, is a descendant of Henry Roland, unless it turns out that her father, John was one of William and Jane's (Roland) children. Since she is named Jane, it is entirely possible that Lucinda's real grandmother was Jane. William died, leaving Jane Roland with a number of children who were separated by the courts into other families to help raise them.  But children were often named for aunts as well.  I will keep trying to define her relationship clearly, but in the mean time, Nancy's grandfather, John is attributed to Henry (Halley) Roland and his wife Sarah.
At any rate, we are descended from both John, and one of Henry's children named George.  At the time Nancy married, the names were sometimes spelled differently. There were three spellings that evolved from the Roland name: Roland, Rowland, and Rolland.  We have "cousins" with all 3 spellings.

But Nancy was also a Silver descendant with a long heritage of Baptist preachers in her heritage.
She and William Bailus Roland lived in McDowell County, NC. They are buried behind what is now a small Methodist church, in a cemetery on the hill behind it.
