DESTINED FROM THE START
3 Ancetral Grandparents On One Early Census Page
(See the transcription below+)
........
*John Edwards, Sr. is Captian John Edwards, our Edwards ancestor.  2 names down is ** Nancy Anglin, wife of Issac Anglin who by this time is deceased, also our ancesters. Just below center page are Charles Roland and George Roland. George is Charles' son.  Charles is the patriarch of the Rolands in our Western NC ancestry, and at first I thought George was our ancestral grandfather, Charles' grandson, or Charles' brother George. But was too young.

(Our George married *John Edwards' grand-daughter, Sarah Edwards. Eventually, Hobart Roland, descendant of Charles and our George, married Norah Anglin who was a descendant of ** Nancy and Issac Anglin.)

However, upon comparing ages, this George is a son of Charles Roland, and also the brother of Henry (Halley) Roland, obviously, also a son of Charles. (Some records have their names spelled Rowland. Here they have been spelled without the w as they should be.)  Both Charles the elder Roland and Henry, his son, who is listed on a different census page, have the formal name: Charles Henry Roland. George listed on this page, was probably named for Charles' father, who is believed to be named George, and lived in Haw Creek, NC, near Hillsboro. Charles is said to have given Hillsboro as his birthplace.

The other John Edwards listed here is probably the husband of Martha Patsy Roland, Henry and George's sister, (buried at the end of Roland Road in an overgrown grave yard.) Perhaps the John Taylor is kin to Christopher Taylor who married John Edwards Sr.s  sister. The same who built the Taylor House, in what became Franklin and then Tennessee, of which I have written in one of my blogs.

What is marvelous about this 1810 Census Document is -

Both our earliest Anglin family and our earliest Roland family, are represented here
and so close together on one page, of an area not yet called Yancey Co., NC. The
bonus is that our Edwards ancestor is also here.

Abt. 1778

P.S. The will itself was written in 1770, and among the witnesses was a James Brown.  Would be interesting to see if descendants of his family also shows up in Yancey Co., NC later. My curiosity has found some interesting things by asking such questions. So I keep asking questions.
